Insurance Repairs
Tim Phelps provides specialist assessment, conservation and repair of antique furniture and historic wooden objects following insured damage.
I work with private owners, insurers and loss adjusters to establish the extent of damage, identify appropriate conservation treatments and provide clear estimates for remedial work. Where historically important furniture or interiors are involved, the aim is not simply to make the damage disappear, but to retain as much original material, finish and historic evidence as possible while returning the object to a stable and usable condition.
My extensive experience of traditional furniture construction, historic timbers, veneers, finishes and fittings allows me to undertake complex repairs which may be beyond the scope of conventional furniture repairers.
I can provide condition assessments, treatment recommendations and estimates for insurance purposes, and undertake the conservation and restoration work required following an accepted claim.
Experience includes
- Water, fire, smoke and transit damage
- Condition reports and photographic records
- Treatment proposals and written estimates
- Skilled appraisal of historic pieces
- Liaison with insurers and loss adjusters
The aim is not simply to make the damage disappear, but to retain as much original material, finish and historic evidence as possible.
